Each year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons compiles a list of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedures in the United States. Breast augmentation tends to top the chart, and 2015 was no exception. It was followed by liposuction, and then nose reshaping, also known as rhinoplasty. Los Angeles cosmetic surgeons Dr. Steve Svehlak and Dr. Dan Yamini noted that although rhinoplasty came in No. 3, with 217,979 surgeries reported, it is the highest-ranked of all dedicated facial cosmetic surgeries offered in the country.
Not Just Changing the Nose
Rhinoplasty’s popularity may be because while it is focused on the nose, the results can impact a patient’s entire face. Surgically changing the size or shape of nostrils, smoothing out a nasal hump, and altering other angles can cause other features, from the eyes to the mouth to the ears, to appear more in balance—assuming the surgeon is experienced and has an eye for a patient’s entire face.
Nasal surgery may also be done for functional reasons, not just cosmetic ones, to help correct breathing problems or a deviated septum.

Aside from rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery was high on the list of facial surgeries, too, with 203,934. Also ranked were neck lift (54,281), forehead lift (40,450), lip augmentation (27,449), ear surgery (22,714), chin augmentation (17,451), and cheek implants (12,668).
Also note that while liposuction is frequently applied to the abdominal area and other areas of the body where fat collects, it can also be used to reduce a double chin, giving patients a more clearly defined jaw line.
