Depending on the natural breast tissue, patients may opt to have their implants removed (or in some cases with saline implants, deflated), or to exchange their existing implants for a set of smaller implants. Surgery to downsize breast implants involves simply switching one implant for another. Sometimes, a breast lift, scar revision, or nipple revision may be necessary if the tissue surrounding the old implant has been stretched and needs to be repaired.

Our highly-experienced breast surgeons, Dr. Yamini and Dr. Svehlak, take great care in considering each woman’s body proportions to determine how a reduced implant size that will look and feel the most comfortable and natural. Unfortunately, not all surgeons who perform breast procedures have the level of experience and training of our surgeons.

This is a 50 y.o. female from Los Angeles, who was very into fitness. She had a breast lift with placement of saline implants placed under the muscle done several years before. Her implants never dropped well, which gave her a very annoying and obvious animation deformity. She did not like this. She saw Dr. Svehlak for implant removal to correct her problem.

Dr. Svehlak reviewed her options. Because she had saline implants, the simplest intervention would be to percutaneous puncture and drain the implants with a needle. This took about 15 minutes in the office. She was very happy with the shape of her breasts and now does not have the animation deformity.
