Here at Sunset Cosmetic Surgery we pride ourselves on keeping up with the latest and greatest developments in medical technology and bringing the benefits of these new treatments to our patients as soon as they’re available. And without a doubt, one of the most exciting (and most talked-about) new developments in the world of cosmetic medical technology is Emsculpt.
What is Emsculpt?
Emsculpt is a non-invasive (as in no knives or injections required) treatment that helps tone muscle and burn fat in the butt, abs, and legs.
The “EM” in Emsculpt stands for electromagnetic — the device uses electromagnetic energy to stimulate muscle contractions… a lot of contractions. In a single 30-minute session, it triggers the equivalent of up to 20,000 contractions. Imagine trying to do 20,000 sit-ups in 30 minutes and you start to see why Emsculpt is the talk of the town right now.
And its not just for your abs…
Does it really work?
As doctors, our most important responsibility is to carefully vett every new treatment and procedure that comes across our desk before we ever bring them to our patients.
First and foremost, Emsculpt is FDA-approved — a sign of approval from the government signaling that the device does what it claims to.
In addition, studies of patients using Emsculpt have shown real results. Three separate studies have shown promising results across the different functions of Emsculpt: fat burning, muscle toning, and wait reduction.
In a study with 33 Emsculpt patients, there was an average of 19% reduction in fat in the abdominal area in the first month following treatment (and 23% after three months). A separate study of 22 patients saw an average increase in ab muscle thickness of 15% after two months. A third study found that in 19 patients, average waist size decreased by 1.7 inches after three months.
How long does it take to see results?
To get the best results, it is recommended to schedule a minimum of 4 30-minute sessions, each 2-3 days apart.
You can start seeing (and feeling) results immediately following a session, but Emsculpt continues to tone even after the sessions are finished, with the best results coming about three months after treatment.
